At the Tomb of the Inflatable Pig: Travels Through Paraguay - John Gimlette
It is an oddball, funny, appalling portrait of a country with a history of malign thug-leaders as dreadful as Russia’s. Gimlette's tone is amused but affectionate. A mix of history and travelogue, the organization meanders, which is maddening if the book is read in a mood that assumes expository prose should move from A to B without too many long tangents.
