Read for the War Challenge with a Twist 2014 at War Through the Generations
Russia’s Heroes, 1941-45 – Albert Axell
This popular history
focuses on heroic acts during WWII by Russian civilians and soldiers. In
extremely readable prose and backed by interviews and research in Russia, the
book would be of interest to any reader into WWII in the East. Axell’s
intention was address a legacy of the Cold War, the persistent ignorance
about the huge Russian contribution to ending WWII and saving the world from
the Nazis.
